After the funeral, everyone gathered just steps away from Joey's garden, "hugging and loving and celebrating the lovely life she lived". Gaither and his wife Gloria will be holding a memorial service for Joey today at her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana, where Joey and Rory stayed until Joey took her final breath.
"Eight angelic voices led a procession singing "Down By The River To Pray" all the way out to the family plot", Rory wrote.
"Joey's one hope was that she could "come home" on a lovely day... and, oh, it was", he explained.
According to posts on social media, a packed gymnasium of Joey's friends, family and fans all took a stand and cheered for Rory, who was holding IN, his 2-year-old daughter with Joey, IN his arms.
Rory faithfully recorded the moments he and Joey shared together on his blog, which included everything from Joey's decision to end cancer treatments and go on hospice care to celebrating Valentine's Day and the 2nd birthday of their daughter, Indiana. "The daffodils were blooming, the grass was green and sky was bright blue".
The service was held in the couple's barn, a place they had held many concerts and events over the years. After Rory's sister Marcy, Joey's best friend Julie, and their manager Aaron spoke, it was Rory's turn.
Rory detailed how the couple's loved ones had spoken during the service and admitted he couldn't find the words to express how much his beloved wife had meant to him. "And a team of mules carried Joey's simple wooden box in an 1800's wagon with six of Joey's favorite "cowboys" by her side".
Joey Feek, who performed with her husband as the duo Joey + Rory, died March 4 after a battle with cervical cancer. After all the guests had gone home, Rory and IN took a walk to visit with Joey one more time.
The deeply religious country singer concluded his post - illustrated with family photos from the burial - with the inspirational lines "She'll always be with us. We all felt as though we were close to her". We remembered that she's still with us.
