With so few people using the Windows mobile OS, app developers have little incentive to put time and money into developing mobile apps for the platform. It was said to apply to both Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.

Microsoft added support for Bitcoin to its online store in December 2014 when the value of one bitcoin was already far below its all-time high price of around $1,100, but the buzz around the digital currency was still quite intense. Microsoft was also the first major platform holder to begin accepting Bitcoin as an alternative to traditional currency.

The store entry of the extension Page Analyzer is hidden from the Store application on Windows 10, the Microsoft Store website, and search engines now which means that it can not be opened unless you have the direct link.

The representative added that their support office has received no official word about the policy change, suggesting that a formal statement could be forthcoming - as well as clarification on the exact policy regarding bitcoin payments. "We apologize for inaccurate information that was inadvertently posted to a Microsoft site, which is now being corrected", said Microsoft in a report by TechCrunch.

As part of the efforts to put bitcoin's underlying technology to use, Microsoft has come up with an offering that it calls blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS). Microsoft hadn't offered any explanation as to why it was pulling support from Bitcoin.

The technology giant has previously expressed a desire to have one billion devices running Windows 10 within two years of its launch, having reached around 200 million by the end of 2015. It lets you use another personal device that has a password to unlock a known PC that was previously paired using the app.

It's not clear exactly when Microsoft will debut Edge extensions to Windows 10 testers, but the company is now testing a number of builds internally with the support. Did any of you use to be big into Bitcoin mining?
