Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim was equally complementary of the ACC after the conference landed six schools in the Sweet 16, USA Today reported on Sunday. That fuels us offensively, and if we get it going offensively, we can make it really tough on teams.
As I mentioned, the Pac-12 had seven teams in the NCAA Tournament. "So a big decision coming to Villanova, a lot of it was based on basketball", said sophomore Scott Dunleavy. Heck, the league could have six of the Elite Eight and the entire Final Four, each of which would mark a first. But you also have more teams in that league, too.
They flirted with basketball perfection, and they just happened to do it under the brightest lights, under unimaginable pressure, under the weight of a tremendous expectation of failure. Tuck, who came in during the same class, is considering leaving for the WNBA despite having another year of eligibility because of a knee injury that cost her most of her sophomore season.
East (Friday/Sunday in Philadelphia): It is not the championship game, but North Carolina versus in drips with nostalgia.
Deva'Nyar Workman scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half and April Robinson added 16 points for Duquesne (28-6), which was playing in its first NCAA Tournament. Both of these schools are experienced.
It comes in a year when the league tied its own record with seven NCAA bids on Selection Sunday despite the fact that another likely high seed Louisville ended up sitting out due to a self-imposed postseason ban amid an NCAA investigation. The way the bracket sits, there's still a chance of an all-ACC Final Four, and both North Carolina and Virginia are favored to win their respective region. While the bottom half of the Midwest is pandemonium, the top part is pure chalk. Syracuse reached the Sweet 16 by virtue of upsetting No. 7 Dayton in the first round and easily disposing of No. 15 Middle Tennessee State in the second round. "They have so many veterans that defensively they're wonderful".
On Friday, we'll see No. 1 Virginia against No. 4 Iowa State.
After toppling a couple teams seeded in the teens in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, Maryland faces the ultimate task in top-seeded Kansas with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line.
GOING TO FORM: Not that it's unusual for a No. 1 seed to encounter very few problems in its first two games. Feels great that everything that we're doing paid off out there.
Miami's Davon Reed (5) celebrates with Sheldon McClellan (10) and Kamari Murphy (21) during the second half of a second-round game against Wichita State in the NCAA men's college basketball tournament in Providence, R.I., Saturday, March 19, 2016. They are an intelligent and connected defensive team. "After a while, you're like, I'm fine, you know", Villanova coach Jay Wright said. The Lumberjacks made three consecutive tournaments, won 89 games and gave many an athletic director a reason to hire Brad Underwood, who is a tremendous coach.
The Huskies extended their winning streak to 71 games, making it the second longest in team and Division I women's history. It's a redemption tour; embrace it. Miami may very well be the most under-discussed team in this tournament.
"We look at our guards as guards", Wright said. Buckle up for a battle between disciplined, well-coached clubs. Texas will play UCLA in the Sweet 16. Melo Trimble is finding a groove, and he can be as good as anyone in the nation when he's on. He is opening things up for the Terps' offense at just the right time. The Jayhawks, behind the play of Wayne Selden Jr. and Perry Ellis, made easy work of their first two opponents. Certainly, nothing can be taken away from Xavier's terrific season that featured one of the best starts in program history and one of the best win totals as well.
Despite all the madness, the four No. 1 seeds are still alive.
However, against the Sooners physical inside combination of Ryan Spangler and Khadeem Lattin, Alie-Cox struggled to find free space in the first half as Oklahoma outrebounded the Rams 25-13. Because of upsets, the ACC teams all got to play worse seeds than expected in the second round, but the feat is no less impressive. Superior guard play is what March is all about, and Oklahoma has that and then some. They will play either Northern Illinois or Texas A&M. The two-time Big Ten champions were also playing on their home floor.
