The museum is preparing a display of Prince artifacts for its Memorial Hall, which was recently moved and expanded. I was heartbroken. Honest to God, that is the only way I can describe how I feel about his passing. While the majority of the public focused its attention on grieving his death, others noted that Prince's last studio album now stood as a shrine to his influence and impact on the world. But being a fellow guitarist meant that these two had much more in common.

Like all great virtuosi, Prince uses the entire range of his instrument, dives headlong into daring hammer-ons and somehow, amid all of that, keeps melody at the forefront. This wasn't just any Beatles song: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" features one of the most memorable solos ever recorded on a Fab Four record, performed by Eric Clapton, whose isolated take can be heard here.

My Guitar Gently Weeps. From his "cheeky" chaps at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards to his guitar-smashing antics on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in 2013, the funk trailblazer always knew how to turn heads with his wild, rapturous performances.

The singer appropriately closed out his rainy set with signature tune "Purple Rain". I remember when he became "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" and his "Love Symbol" became the butt of many jokes (it was actually an f-u to his then-label Warner Bros.).

She was persuaded to change her mind, though - and no doubt was pretty satisfied with her decision when she saw the thrilled looks on the faces of Petty and co, when Prince let rip. "It's shocking news to find out we lost him today", said Hanley.
