Fox News on Tuesday suspended Newt Gingrich as a political contributor over speculations that Donald Trump is considering the former House Speaker as a possible pick for vice president.

Newt "Big Newt" Gingrich may or may not be announced as Donald Trump's running mate on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.

Dustin Stockton is a political reporter for Breitbart News, a community liaison for Gun Owners of America, and a political strategist.

Trump has said he's looking for an experienced politician to be his running mate, and with 20 years in Congress under his belt, Gingrich fits that description. Gingrich has been one of Trump's top surrogates for months, becoming one of the first veteran Republicans to speak positively about the entertainer, at a time when he was still anathema to the party, or at least, to even more of the party than he is today. A Fox statement said the network and Gingrich made the move to avoid any conflict of interest.

The network similarly tossed Gingrich overboard in 2011 when he began sending signals about preparing for a presidential run.

Pence and Gingrich would be welcome picks among anxious Republican officials already gathering in Cleveland for next week's convention.

There are some other Republicans still in the running, however. Jeff Sessions is also still in the mix. Other recently rumored possibilities include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn.

Sanders also said Trump does not share those values.

"The turn toward a military figure is being driven by Trump himself rather than by his advisers, the people said, and comes as the real estate mogul is telling his friends that national unrest may demand a "tough and steady" presence alongside him on the ticket. And he likes the image of a businessman and a general coming to Washington as outsiders".

We've seen Newt Gingrich emerge as a Trump VP frontrunner, we've heard rumors he may reject such a position, which is saying something for a guy as morally profligate as Newt Gingrich.
