Key Arsenal defender in doubt for PSG Clash

Wenger reserved special praise for Koscielny, who is now a doubt for the clash against PSG with an eye injury, after he celebrated turning 31 in style.

Wenger arrived in the French capital last night ahead of his first match against PSG as Arsenal manager and, when asked about L'Equipe's claims, explained why he had chose to stay in England amid the chance to join a project that would have given him a massive transfer budget. Facing PSG at the Parc des Princes is a daunting prospect, and it remains to be seen how Arsenal fare without their top defender.

"He's all right", said Wenger.

"It is a little concern, it's already very swollen", Wenger revealed after the match. "I think he got 17 goals previous year. And that is why". Like Koscielny, the Welshman trained with the Arsenal first-team in London on Monday morning and could also be edging closer to a comeback. "I think it's a club that has the qualities I love, and that's why". They're a team who are, in France, the team above everyone else.

Wenger has been fiercely critical of "financial doping" by Chelsea and Manchester City, but when given the opportunity to criticise PSG for their own billionaire benefactor model, Wenger chose not to.

Asked if he thinks this squad will be more capable of competing in the Champions League this year, he said: "I think so, yes, because I was used to playing much younger squads when we built the stadium because we didn't have the resources".

"For us this is an important match, but there is no symbolic desire to win".

Arsenal had won at Watford before the worldwide break, having taken only one point from their first two games of the season.

Wenger, and Emery, two men at different ends of their tenures with their clubs, both need a good start to kick off their Champions League campaigns and take a step towards improving their respective records.

Arsene Wenger says he knows Arsenal must get off to a good start in order to win their group.

The Premier League is extremely different to many European leagues - perhaps other than the Bundesliga a league that Perez has also never played in - and patience is needed with the striker's development. When I think about the squad, when you choose a captain as well, you think of one with a good chance to play in every single game and that's not easy nowadays. We have our final session later today: Thiago Silva, Maxwell, Pastore. yesterday's training session was more positive for me because everyone made it clear they wanted to be involved.
