Reid says Smith will not suit up for the Jaguars game.

Burkholder said he incorrectly reported the injury designation, and in fact Smith was still going through the protocol the second time when that announcement was made. The biggest key for Foles, who's tossed 22 TDs and 20 INTs since the start of the 2014 season, will be protecting the ball like Smith, a prototypical game manager. The starting quarterback went through the NFL's concussion protocol twice and was not diagnosed with a concussion according to the Chiefs medical staff.

"He's got lumps on the back of his ears, and a cut ear, and all these things", Reid said of Smith.

Now, let's all move on and focus on the next game against the Jaguars, who are just terrible. But we'll have a variety of people on him and then other people trying to help with that.

When asked Wednesday whether he felt like he suffered a concussion, Smith replied: "nope", according to Kissel. "Certainly something happened", he said. Talk about his short comings all you want but completing 65 percent of his passes and throwing 20-something touchdowns to seven picks is going to win some games.

"It isn't tiddlywinks", Chiefs coach Andy Reid said.

"It was a very different situation [with the 49ers]", Smith said.

He added that he thought the second hit on him was late.

"Everybody has confidence in Nick".

The news also comes just one day after the Chiefs placed running back Jamaal Charles on the injured reserve list. He has experienced multiple setbacks this season. The Chiefs hoped he would be ready this season, but a series of setbacks limited him to 12 carries over three games. The Pro Bowl defensive lineman will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery today and miss the next 2-3 games. Although the National Football League has eliminated conflict of interest from the equation by having independent neurologists administer the concussion tests, the tests themselves are, by everyone's admission, not overly accurate. He topped 1,000 yards five times during his standout career. Ware has not been ruled out of Sunday's game.

Smith passed the concussion exams both times in Indianapolis. When he returned the follow week, his starting spot had been given to Colin Kaepernick and Smith never got it back.

Charcandrick West and the newly acquired Bishop Sankey are the only healthy options in the Kansas City backfield.
