North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un with his wife Ri Sol-ju.
North Korea observers fear she could have fallen foul of her despotic husband or incurred the wrath of his equally menacing sister, Kim Yo jong. She was pictured alongside Kim in state media on 22 occasions in 2013 and 15 times in 2014, but only three times in the first three months of the year and not at all since then.
It's been said Ri and Yo-jong aren't exactly enemies but both women can't get along together given their diametrically opposite personalities.
There is speculation that 27-year-old Ri Sol-ju could be pregnant or that there has been a serious falling out.
Experts believe Yo Jong is the power behind the throne and is even more deadly than her brother.
In February, a news broadcast on the North's Korean Central TV showed Mr Kim and his wife at a banquet to honour those involved in one of Pyongyang's rocket launches, which the North said was a satellite launch but which the global community considers a test of intercontinental ballistic missile.
Ms Ri makes few public appearances - she disappeared from view for a long period previous year too - and when she does make a public appearance, it is only ever in carefully stage-managed photo opportunities in the secretive communist enclave. He was famously accused of blowing up his uncle, Jang Sung-taek, with a missile in 2013 after calling him "human scum worse than a dog". Ri is known to have a taste for expensive Western baubles and high fashion, and has appeared expensively dressed at important events.
But Ri was not mentioned in Kim's recent visits to a newly built soap factory, a recently opened eye hospital and a souvenir factory. She is an unwed mother who gave birth some time in 2015.
Choi was kidnapped in Hong Kong in 1978 and Shin was nabbed when he went to search for her. Kim forced them to make films for North Korea, 17 in all, and they eventually won the leader's trust.
Yo-jong wields massive political power, however.
She was first spotted in a photo taken at the 3rd Conference of the Workers' Party of Korea in September 2010 when she stood next to her father's (Kim Jong-il) personal secretary and alleged mistress, Kim Ok. That same year, former National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman returned from a trip to North Korea and said that the girl's name was Ju-ae, adding that Kim was a "good dad".
Last March, Kim launched another matchmaking contest in order to find a "suitable husband" for Yo-jong. Statistics show North Koreans have, on average, the smallest penis' in the world: 3.2 inches erect.
At the time, Mr Kim was head of the country's ministry for culture and propaganda. Needless to day, this latest one also did.
