Message to Trump? Countries say climate fight 'irreversible'

The annual assessment of national policies and actions to curb global warming found that the European Union has gone from leader to laggard, with the exception of some of its member states. Kerry drew attention to melting glaciers, stronger storms, and record-breaking droughts as incontrovertible evidence of climate change.

"At some point even the strongest sceptic has to acknowledge that something disturbing is happening", Kerry said at a United Nations climate conference in Marrakesh, just a week after Trump's election to the White House.

Trump is making Obama, the unserious Secretary of State John Kerry, and the rest of the climate change alarmists as nervous as a college snowflake who can't find his safe space.

During worldwide climate change talks in Marrakech on Wednesday, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin reminded reporters that climate change negotiations began with the UN's global Panel for Climate Change in the 1980s, supported by the US Republican-led administrations under Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

Activists at a protest in Marrakech call for environmental action. And this year, nations produced more energy from renewables than from fossil fuels.

The outgoing Secretary warned that failing to take quick and comprehensive action to mitigate climate change would lead to disastrous consequences that can not be undone.

The recent U.S. election has raised doubt among delegates in Marrakesh and heads of state worldwide about Americans not fulfilling our international Paris Agreement commitment to cut global greenhouse gas emissions.

As an island nation, Sri Lanka is deeply conscious of the impacts of Climate Change. He also noted that USA military and intelligence leaders have recognized it as a potential "threat-multiplier". Last year, one million solar panels were installed per day on average. I can't speculate about what policies the President-elect will pursue, but I've learned that some issues look a little bit different when you're in office compared to campaign. "Because of the market decisions that are being made [the current American clean energy transition], I do not believe that that can or will be reversed".

It seems that Kerry is urging detractors to bow to the inevitable. On other issues, he has made contradictory statements and has said unpredictability is an asset in worldwide negotiations.

Among the large and small US businesses calling on Trump to acknowledge climate change are DuPont, Gap Inc., General Mills, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Hilton, HP Inc., Kellogg Company, Levi Strauss & Co., L'Oreal USA, NIKE, Mars Incorporated, Schneider Electric, Starbucks, VF Corporation, and Unilever.

The rest of the world fears having to proceed without us with a headier financial burden and at only 80% of the already pledged mitigation and adaptation speed.

"As the largest developed economy in the world, U.S. support is essential".

While the Trump administration does not have the authority to "cancel" the global pact, as the now President-elect pledged during the campaign, it is reportedly looking for ways out and could, because individual countries set their own standards, effectively remove the U.S. from the process.

Twice in the week preceding the U.S. election, China warned Trump that he should reconsider his positions. India has also warned the United States about being unfaithful to its commitments as well. This issue is bigger than life.

But concerns about global efforts to drive down the greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change have been raised by the United States election. In doing so, he would respect both the will of the American people and the proven science.
