Milwaukee home to four semi-finalists for 2017 James Beard awards

Finalists for this year's James Beard Awards will be announced March 15th, while winners will be made public on May 1 in NY. Kris Komori, chef de cuisine at State and Lemp in Boise, joins chef Laurent Zirotti, of Fleu de Sel in Post Falls, in the running for Best Chef: Northwest. "I was kind of in a haze this morning when texts just starting pouring in". Redzikowksi and Seidel were also nominated in this category past year, along with Work & Class chef/partner Dana Rodriguez.

Semi-finalists are not considered James Beard Foundation Award nominees, a designation reserved for those who survive the next round of balloting.

Tripp, who also qualified as a semifinalist in 2016, began his tenure at Alba after a stint at Fruition Restaurant in Denver.

No Cincinnati chef has ever won the Great Lakes category. She first cooked at the distinguished James Beard House - the iconic New York City event space for the James Beard Foundation - as an employee of Northern Spy Food 2009 or 2010, she says, after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America. The same panel of judges will then name the winners in each category on April 25.

Also recognized as a semifinalist in this category a year ago, Bluestem received a major renovation in 2014.It continues to receive kudos as "a national standard bearer of consistent quality and excellence in food, atmosphere and service", with executive chef Andrew Longres recently promoted to run the kitchen. Finalists will be announced March 15.

After three consecutive years of being nominated for Outstanding Chef, the prestigious competition's top prize, Sean Brock was not named to this year's list of potential contenders.

Award semifinalists were selected from a list of more than 24,000 online entries, representing dining destinations in 10 different regions across the United States.
