Today, Blizzard has released a video introducing us to Overwatch's newest hero, Orisa.
For anyone who has yet to read anything about Orisa's kit, in many ways she's an amalgamation of various heroes, blending certain components from the likes of Reinhardt, Zarya, Bastion and Mercy.
Overwatch's newest member Orisa hit Blizzard's public test realm earlier this morning. After an attack by Doomfist, Overwatch's generic baddie, an 11-year-old scientist takes a wrecked OR15 robot, injects a new personality, and comes up with Orisa. Kaplan cites Reinhardt as an "anchor tank", a character whose abilities make the backbone of a team but are not necessarily mobile like D.Va or Winston. Her alternate fire sends out a pulse like Zarya's Graviton Charge; when you click your alternate fire again, it brings affected targets within its radius for a very short period of time, comparable to a mini Graviton Surge that can be performed more often to reposition targets for other team members to take advantage of. Think an inverse verion of Pharah's knock-away charge: rather than knocking enemies away, it drags them closer. Her Ultimate is something called Supercharger, which increases the damage inflicted by the players on your team.
Orisa will be a tank character.
However, it should be noted that Blizzard is now talking about Doomfist freely, as it is specifically mentioned in Orisa's lore that it was the mysterious character that caused the destruction in the Numbani Airport. In a developer update, Jeff Kaplan goes through some of the inspiration for Orisa, which you can watch in the video below, but I'll go over a few of the main points if you don't have time to watch the almost thirteen minute video. Why walk along slowly as Reinhardt holding a barrier - doing little else - when you can run and gun and still protect your team? However, opponents can destroy the Supercharger, so when in use it needs to be protected. Orisa is a safe hero to use and it's not particularly hard to theorize where she will shine. Orisa herself is a female omnic built by Efi from the parts of defense bots.
You can see all of these in action on the Overwatch hero page, or join in on the PTR where Orisa is already live! Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
