The poll percentage for the valley can be treated as finalized as nearly all the polling officials have reached their respective district headquarters and reported to the DEOs. Altogether 5,44,050 male voters, 5,75,220 female voters, 5169 male service voters and 1915 female service voters are expected to exercise their right to adult franchise at 1,643 polling stations. In all, 168 candidates are contesting in the first phase. The Congress may have an edge over BJP in the seven Kuki dominated seats in the hills, says a Kuki leader George Guite.

Manipur National Democratic Front is contesting in 10 assembly constituencies while North East India Democratic Party is fighting from eight seats.

Interestingly, there is no Congress candidate in the Churachandpur and the Kangpokpi constituencies.

As many as 837 polling stations were identified as hyper sensitive and 529 as sensitive by the Election Commission (EC).

The first phase of the assembly polls reflected a very important fact that the spirit of the people when it comes to voting can not be shunned by any disruptive force.
