Modi further said terrorism is one of the chief violators of human rights and values. The SCO member states represented about 45 per cent of the world population which accounted for 25 per cent of the world's GDP which itself spoke about the vast potential the region had in store and enhancement in its membership would be definitely beneficial for all, he noted.
Congratulating India on the full member status of the SCO along with Pakistan, the prime minister said it was a historic day for Pakistan and the SCO members as well and thanked the founding members including China, Russia and others for their staunch support to Pakistan to become its full-fledged member.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday in a veiled dig at both Pakistan and China, called for joint efforts to eliminate terrorism even as he emphasised that connectivity projects should not impinge on a country's sovereignty.

With India formally becoming a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) has been designated to represent the Indian industry at the SCO Business Council.
In the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister & Chinese President Xi Jinping among others, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in such a grouping sovereignty & territorial integrity are the key factors for better cooperation. "It is also important to ensure inclusivity and sustainability", the Prime Minister said.
The SCO was founded at a Summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the Presidents of Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Diplomatic sources said it is highly unusual for the Chinese and Pakistani leaders to not meet at a summit, especially when a China-India bilateral meet takes place given Pakistan's usual sensitivities. China will run the presidency for next term after Kazakhstan handed over the presidency.
During their meeting on the sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing last month, the two leaders reached an important consensus on maintaining a high-level China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination and enhancing all-round cooperation, according to the Chinese president.
