American Made will reunite actor and auteur following their work on the underrated Edge of Tomorrow, and the likes of Domhnall Gleeson, Jesse Plemons, and Sarah Wright are along for the ride, too. Fortunately, even if audiences missed the memo, at least the film's star and director did not. Judging by the trailer, American Made falls somewhere between the opposing ends of the director's past projects; aiming to deliver the popcorn entertainment of Liman's fictional suspense-thrillers in combination with the political subject matter and commentary of his docudrama/documentary efforts, in the process. The film was originally titled Mena, but will now be known as American Made, a film about espionage, double dealings, and. The operation spawns the birth of the Medellin cartel and nearly brings down the Reagan White House.

Recreating Seal's involvement with the Medellín cartel in the 1980s, Cruise sports a Southern accent and in one scene in the trailer crash-lands his plane and is covered in cocaine.

Universal Pictures has just brought online the American Made trailer and, in the player below, you can take a first look at the upcoming true story. While working for the Central Intelligence Agency, he spied on the infamous Medellin Cartel, including leader Pablo Escobar, during the height of 1980s cocaine drug trafficking. "Interpreting his story has the makings for an entertaining film that is equal parts satire, suspense and comedy-and always surprising".

American Made hits theaters on September 29, 2017.
