"There's quite a lot of text, so it's an exorbitant amount of work", Horii said.
The prolific franchise celebrated its 30th anniversary past year.
It's important to note that Dragon Quest XI released in Japan today for PlayStation 4 and 3DS.
The last mainline Dragon Quest title to come out on a PlayStation console was Dragon Quest VIII on the PlayStation 2 back in 2004, with a 3DS version that recently came out with added content in 2016. There's also no confirmation on which platform (s) Dragon Quest XI will be on in the west.
No specific date other than 2018 has been given for the worldwide release of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The screenshots appear to be from the console version of the game. A Nintendo Switch version is also in development, but no release date has yet been announced.
