Local shoppers of children's apparel will have one less retail option following Gymboree Corp.'s decision to close its Hanes Mall store as part of its bankruptcy restructuring. Seven of the locations are in Colorado. The closing sales are expected to begin Tuesday.
The retailer is also closing its stores in Mankato and Medford.
Gymboree filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy last month.
The company's closing list online shows it is closing eight stores in Virginia, including a Gymboree at MacArthur Center in Norfolk and one at Chesapeake Square. It is the Gymboree at the West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
A Gymboree at the Vernon Hills Shopping Center in Scarsdale will also close.
In Southern California, the company is shutting Gymboree stores in Los Angeles, Redondo Beach, Barstow, Carlsbad, El Cajon, El Centro, Santa Ana and Westminster; Crazy 8 stores in Corona and Westminster; and a Janie and Jack store in Thousand Oaks.
Fox Valley Mall in Aurora and Algonquin Commons are losing both Gymboree and insane 8 stores.
In a statement addressing customers, the company said after more than 40 years in business, they are "restructuring" to improve it's financial profile.
Since December, the mall has lost several stores, including Sears, Aeropostale, The Limited, New York & Co., Wet Seal, Simply Mac, Family Christian and Vanity.
