Sky unveils Sports channels shake-up

10 new Sky Sports channels announced, will also be part of Now TV passes

A range of sports will be carried on the Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Action channels, with Sky Sports Main Event reserved for the highest-profile coverage and Sky Sports Mix retained for non-sports subscribers.

The new package of ten channels and a schedule of live sport is available for £27.50 per month, which will remain frozen for 12 months.

United Kingdom pay-TV broadcaster Sky Sports has confirmed details of its repackaged offer to viewers, bringing in a series of standalone single-sport channels in response to dramatic changes to consumption of television and live sport. There's also Sky Sports Premier League, which is for the slightly better round kicking players.

The line-up will include new channels dedicated to some of the biggest sports, opening up different ways for customers to join Sky Sports.

The new channels will offer viewers new programming, including: a nightly Premier League debate show on Sky Sports Premier League; masterclasses and coaching clinics from some of the biggest names in sport; live golf previews ahead of selected European and USA events; and a number of new documentaries.

But for now the official word is that BT TV customers will only get one full-time Sky Sports channel. These cost GBP 18 per month for one pack, GBP 22 for two and GBP 26 for three. In the United States, the "cord-cutting" phenomenon - where existing cable subscribers drop their subscriptions - and the rise of "cord-nevers" - young adults from wealthier demographics who have no intention of ever paying for cable - has eaten deep into the customer base of premium sports channels.
