She was so passionate about her work.

Familia, 48, was shot in the head early Wednesday while sitting in a mobile command unit in the Fordham Heights neighborhood of the Bronx.

"She was an exceptional person, and I know she's up there with God and with us", she said. Soon after, officers shot and killed the gunman after they say he drew a weapon on them.

NYPD officials said the shooting was unprovoked.

A hospital spokesperson said St. Barnabas will fully cooperate in the investigation and said that all procedures were followed regarding its evaluation of Bonds during the time he was in its emergency room.

"We never forget. We owe it to police Officer Familia and her wonderful family to never forget her and always honor her", Assistant Chief Larry Nikunen, Commanding Officer of Patrol Borough Bronx, said at the candlelight vigil. She was so stunningly lovely and always had a piece of wisdom to share with us. Officer Familia had three children, including a set of twins. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and aunt to all of us.

Sarah Malik - a local Staten Islander who manages Surriya Global Charities with her family - approached Bagels R Us and local legislators to host an event "Bagels for Blue" featuring "NYPD blue" bagels at the store in Eltingville. Our mom, Miosotis Familia, was our pride.
