Wimbledon Starts With a Polka-Dotted Kate Middleton

As Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the Duchess is a regular attendee of the tournament. The search giant has the most adorable doodle to celebrate this Wimbledon's anniversary, as the tournament kicks off on Monday.

The Doodle features a green background - an homage to the grass courts on which Wimbledon matches are played - and two animated tennis rackets playing a quick round. It "dutifully shoos away any pigeons who land on the court during a match", writes Google.

Wimbledon's Rufus also makes an appearance on the top right corner.

The tennis tournament attracts over 500,000 spectators for two weeks every year.

The All England Club had been founded exclusively for the goal of croquet in 1869 on four acres of rented meadowland at Worple Road, Wimbledon but croquet was rapidly overtaken by the new pastime of tennis.

Standing out from the stark, all-white ensembles the tournament's players are famously required to wear on the court, the 35-year-old's three-quarter-length sleeved dress featured a pattern to rival Melania Trump's gingham, with bold black dots from shoulder to knee, a square neckline, and a flouncy pleated skirt. British champ Andy Murray will be defending his title in the men's singles tournament, but last year's victor of the women's title Serena Williams will not be on court this summer, as she is now pregnant.

Andy Murray is fighting to retain the trophy, but after crashing out of the first round at Queen's he's not in the best of form. However, big names like Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will be missing out on this year.
