Bucs waive kicker Aguayo following preseason opener

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher suggested previous year changes to Aguayo's kicking routine may have contributed to his inconsistency. The Buccaneers finally had enough after the 23-year-old missed a field goal and extra-point attempt in their preseason opener.

The placekicker actually got the game started with an opening-drive chip-shot field goal from 20 yards out. "Unlucky", Aguayo said after the game.

It was pretty apparent after the Buccaneers signed Nick Folk this offseason that Aguayo was on thin ice. "Perfect" never missed an extra point, going 198-of-198. You just have to keep your head up and move onto the next day.

Aguayo was inconsistent throughout his rookie season, converting only 22-of-31 field goal attempts while converting 32-of-34 point-after tries. Folk converted 82.2 percent of his field goal attempts during his seven seasons in NY.

It's an unfortunate end for Aguayo but there is one thing at the very top of his job description he didn't do and that was make kicks. Not what I wanted.

"When you get bored doing something, 'well there's more I can do". Obviously, not up to the standards that I want.

Bucs Dirk Koetter appeared to have lost all faith in Aguayo after Friday's game.

Aguayo missed his first kick vs the Philadelphia Eagles during a preseason game a year ago, and he was boo'd off the field by Bucs fans after missing more kicks during practice.

"You know, I keep saying it, I can't say it anymore", Koetter said. 'Well, this guy said I could get 5 more yards.' I said, 'Did any of those guys make 23 of 24 or 25 of 26 or whatever the heck you did and win the Groza?' I said, 'Why are you listening to them?
