The phone loses the iPhone's iconic home button, which revolutionized smartphones when it launched; offers an edge-to-edge screen; and will use facial recognition to unlock the phone.
When it comes to iPhone 8 Plus, its components cost $288.80 while the parts of the iPhone 7 Plus cost $270.88.
While OLED displays are generally more power-efficient than traditional LCD displays, the power draw of the iPhone X's 5.8-inch display is probably larger than the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus - with their 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens, respectively. Apple is known for doing more with less, which usually applies to its custom system-on-chip (in this case, an A11 Bionic chip).
The iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone 8 are expensive phones, even to manufacture.
Here's a cost breakdown of how this year's models compare to last year's models (at launch). iPhone 7 and 7 Plus prices dropped by $100 following the launch of the 2017 lineup. That may also apply to battery life-despite the smaller battery pack, Apple claims the iPhone X lasts up to 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7, which has a 1,960 mAh battery. "From a teardown perspective, the biggest cost adders would be the increased NAND flash memory content and new wireless charging components". Costs for software and research and development aren't factored in these estimates. The A11 Bionic also features an all-new Apple designed tri-core GPU that boasts 70 percent better graphical performance than its predecessor. The move to 64 GB costs an extra $6 per unit, while the A11 Bionic is $5 more expensive compared to a year ago since it's built on Taiwan Semiconductor's newer 10-nanometer FinFET process. Some have viewed this as a sign that demand for the new iPhones just isn't good. Here the phones will go on sale from September 29.
Speaking of the A11 Bionic chip, the TENAA filing also shows that iPhone X's processor is clocked at 2.4GHz, which is almost identical to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
