New Wearables At Apple Launch Event: Apple Watch Series 3 And AirPods 2

Despite rumours the next Apple Watch would come with an "all-new form factor", the Series 3 model takes on the same rectangular design found on the Series 1 and Series 2 models.

This is AirPower, and it's a wireless charging mat specifically for people with a load of Apple products that can be wirelessly charged.

The company's CEO Tim Cook told attendees that the tech giant now sells the number one watch in the world, leapfrogging Rolex in the process. He also said the Apple Watch has experienced a 50% year-on-year increase in sales. The big new feature this time is the addition of LTE cellular connectivity. Now, the new watch will notify users when it detects an elevated heart rate when they don't appear to be active. The latest update also brings an enhanced Workout app with a new interface, custom High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout type and auto-sets for pool swims.

Apple has confirmed that watchOS 4 is going to be released on September 19th.

It looks like its predecessor but now comes with built-in cellular. Last year's model, for instance, introduced Global Positioning System capabilities, so that the watch can measure runs and bike rides more accurately without the iPhone nearby. You now get it in Space Gray, White and and new Gold colour options.

The new watch will include a new, faster dual-core processor compared to the upcoming iPhone 8's six-core processor, which is 70% quicker than the previous model. Siri works faster than ever before. The watch also comes with a barometric altimeter. The new device's display itself is a multi-frequency antenna for both LTE and UMTS. An eSIM is a built-in SIM card embedded into to the device's board.

In the United Kingdom, the Apple Watch Series 3 is going to be an EE exclusive. With it, you can send and receive calls and texts from your watch, use maps, and more. Pre-orders start October 27 and the iPhone X will be available for sale starting November 3.

The cellular version will first go on sale in nine countries including the United Kingdom and the USA, while the Wi-Fi-only model will be available in 26 countries.

Each model of the new Apple Watch Series 3 is now split into two variants: non-LTE and LTE.

If you are wondering about the case size, it will stay the same and the battery will remain at 18 hours. It will be available from September 22 and the pre-orders for the watch will start from September 15.

Apparently, Intel is supplying the modem for the watch, partly because it's smaller and uses less power than Qualcomm's, but probably also because Apple is now suing Qualcomm. The watches are still focused towards health but many cool features have been introduced with this gen-next watch from Apple.
