Manchester City storm to top of EPL table after huge win

City are one of the title favourites and Pep Guardiola's forward-line is littered with attacking prowess, while Silva is having to contend with a defensive crisis.

Up front, Roberto Pereyra (groin) and Mauro Zarate (cruciate ligament) are the men who will not play any part on Saturday.

Guardiola, however, was quick to call for calm after a similarly impressive start last season ended trophyless. It also has solved the conundrum of fitting him and David Silva into the same team and, when City enjoy the dominance of possession they exerted here, using two players with eyes for a through ball makes ideal sense.

The Hornets have lost all four games against tomorrow's opponents since they arrived back in the Premier League two seasons ago.

It's nearly 35 years to the day since Graham Taylor's Watford beat West Bromwich Albion 3-0 to move top of what was then the First Division. Huddersfield (18 mins) and Manchester United (2 mins) are the only teams that have been behind for fewer minutes.

Guardiola's side has scored 15 goals in three matches since the global break, following 5-0 and 4-0 wins over Liverpool and Feyernood respectively.

Last season, City completed a double over Watford without conceding a goal. "The score is heavy but it is not easy", says Watford manager Marco Silva.

The Hornets have picked up victories on the road at Bournemouth and Southampton but they are still searching for their first league win at home this season. While the start to the season wasn't quite as strong for the shot stopper - he let in three goals against Liverpool - he has not had to pick the ball out of his net even once since then.

Another day, another HUGE win for Manchester City.

"Maybe we don't have time for that".

Man City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne reckons the intense competition for places at the club is helping to maintain their standards on the pitch. "Now we go to West Brom and after that, we have more games before the worldwide break". Liverpool had chances to get the full three points, it just didn't take them.

Aguero's 10th hat-trick in City sky blue took his goal tally for the club to 175 - two fewer than all-time top scorer Eric Brook - but incredibly his future at the Etihad had been questioned following the emergence of 20-year-old Gabriel Jesus. Newcastle made it three league wins a row by beating Stoke 3-1, Leicester and Huddersfield drew 1-1, and West Brom and West Ham played out a goalless draw.
