Major Earthquake Shakes Mexico City On Anniversary Of 1985 Quake Disaster

The quake hit five miles from the Mexican state of Puebla, at a depth of 32 miles, according to the United States Geological Survey. On Wednesday, President Pena Nieto said 22 bodies were found in the debris of an elementary school in Mexico City that collapsed.

"A total of 138 people have sadly lost their lives", said the director of the government's civil protection service, Luis Felipe Puente, on Tuesday.

The tragedy came less than two weeks after a massive 8.1-magnitude quake hit Mexico on September 7 and killed almost 100 people.

The Voice is celebrating its 35th birthday this year.

In addition, Tuesday also served as the 32nd anniversary of the devastating 1985 natural disaster that killed thousands of people in the capital.

The magnitude 7.1 quake was centered 76 miles southeast of Mexico City.

It came less than two weeks after a massive 8.1-magnitude quake hit the country on September 7 and killed almost 100.

As buildings crumbled like cardboard houses, clouds of dust bellowed out, killing more than 200 (at the time of filing this piece) people.

Some children were trapped in a partly-collapsed school building in Mexico City, local media reported, adding that rescue efforts were on to save them.

Fires broke out around the city as gas mains were damaged in the quake.

About 40% of Mexico City remained without power as rescue workers dug through the night in search of survivors.

People were feared trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings as rescue teams rushed to the hardest-hit areas. "We are with you and will be there for you", US President Donald Trump tweeted. Several are confirmed dead and some say the damage is even worse than the 8.0 Quake that hit the country just eleven days ago.
