Shooter kills 1, wounds 7 at Tennessee church

One person has been killed and seven others were wounded after a gunman opened fire inside a church in Antioch, Tennessee. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where there was no immediate word on his condition. "The majority are older adults".

Although injured, the usher went to the parking lot, took a gun out of his vehicle and re-entered the sanctuary. None of their identities were immediately known.

Aaron said he was "not aware" of any relationship between the alleged gunman and any of the worshippers inside the church.

The gunman arrived at the church's parking lot as a prayer service was letting out, said Don Aaron, spokesman for the police department.

Medical personnel are treating 8 wounded church goers shot at Burnett's Chapel Church of Christ. According to the station, victims were sent to both Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Tristar Skyline Medical Center.

The church is located outside of Nashville. "As of 11:40 a.m. a dispatcher said the scene was still active".

All of the victims have been taken to area hospitals, he said.
