"They kept us in the game".

On two separate drives, Auburn had first down from Clemson's 2- and 11 -yard lines, all within the first 16 minutes of the game, and came away with just six points. Ryan Davis made 8 receptions for 32 yards.

After a week of preparing for Stidham's big-time arm talent - and don't lete the numbers fool you, the guy can play - Clemson's defensive backs came into the game with a bit more objective than usual. "I was fine", Bryant said after the game. Stidham had a modest debut for Auburn. And Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney is too likable and engaging to be confused with the grouchy coach of the Alabama Death Star.

"It was happening real fast", Carter recalled.

"I just had the wind knocked out of me. And for a young guy like K'Von to get his first start at was just a great challenge for our defense but at the end of the day we just won in the trenches". In college football, sack yardage is subtracted from the rushing total. Bryant had to leave the game as a result of the impact, with backup quarterback Zerrick Cooper forced to take over for several snaps.

Clemson scored a playoff-case-boosting nonconference win over an SEC team in which it allowed just six points, and it will continue its pursuit of a third straight playoff bid with a road trip to Louisville next week, where its defensive line will be faced with Heisman victor Lamar Jackson ... but also a vulnerable Cardinals offensive line.

Despite the play-calling looking very Gus-like, Malzahn said he didn't call the plays Saturday. "It's all about the "next play" mentality, and that's what I did after that". He didn't get help, as Auburn's offensive line was overwhelmed by the nation's top defensive line, and Kamryn Pettway - returning from a Week 1 suspension - rushed 22 times for 74 yards. After a 2016 season with multiple quarterbacks, Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham is the new Auburn quarterback.

That lead swelled to 6-0 on the second play of the second quarter as Auburn capitalized on a fumble by Clemson's Ray-Ray McCloud at his own 10-yard line.

Austin Bryant finished with four sacks. We're a big family and nothing will ever divide us.

"The secondary gets a bunch of credit".

"They have a great defense", Stidham said. "You've got to be able to win games a lot of different ways and we demonstrated that we can do that because you never know what type of team you're going to get into". Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson did not dress out as he is still recovering from an injured hamstring. "I can't say enough good things".

On paper, Clemson football has one of the best defenses in the country. On Saturday, he redeemed himself as well as he could given Clemson's defense.

After a solid freshman season, most expected Jones would take a step forward in his development and contend for All-ACC honors. "We just have to execute a lot better".

"This game was culture versus culture, and we showed up", O'Daniel said. "Anybody who's second-guessing us needs to go ahead and stop that, because we put in that work".
