US -backed forces on Saturday seized a major natural gas field in Syria's Deir al-Zor province from Islamic State militants after days of fighting close to the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, a group commander said.

In the meantime, proximity of Deir Ezzur to the United States bases in Iraq and Syria's main oilfields, on which Russian Federation is keen to invest, have been mentioned among other reasons, al-Ahd pointed out.

He added: "Fire points in those areas will be immediately suppressed with all military means".

Konashenkov said that the USA has been warned, through the deconfliction line to the US military headquarters in Qatar, that any further attacks by the SDF will be suppressed.

The SDF had twice opened fire with mortars and artillery on Syrian troops who were working alongside Russian special forces, it claimed.

"SDF militants work to the same objectives as ISIS terrorists". Russian drones did not detect any clashes between the two groups when SDF fighters approached Deir al-Zor, he said.

PKK/PYD terrorist organization took control of a major gas plant northeast of Deir Ez-Zour province in Syria, according to a local source.

The report further said that Syrian warplanes also destroyed Daesh gathering centers in the areas of Khasham, Howeijet Sakker, al-Howeiqa, al-Jbaileh, al-Aridi and Kanamat in the eastern countryside of the province.

"According to our information, USA intelligence services initiated the offensive to halt the successful advance of government troops to the east of Deir al-Zor", said Colonel-General Sergei Rudskoi.

At the end of that work, government units will head to the city of Maadan, about 70 kilometers west of Deir Ezzor, Sana News Agency reported.

"This is the first gas or oil field in the campaign which we have liberated", one SDF commander told Reuters.

Following Damascus's strategic victory, food, medicine and other essentials started to reach the city by convoy, where previously the inhabitants had to rely on air-drops.
