'Sonic the Hedgehog' Movie Races to Paramount (Exclusive)

It looks like Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film.

Among them: Deadpool director Tim Miller is executive producer, while Miller's Blur Studio colleague Jeff Fowler will direct. Toby Ascher is executive producer, Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons are co-producers. Toby Ascher of The Green Hornet will also produce, while noted video game producer Dmitri Johnson, who has had a hand in titles like We Happy Few and Life is unusual, will co-produce with The Darkness writer Dan Jevons. Also producing is Neal H. Moritz under the Original Film banner.

Sonic the Hedgehog was initially confirmed as a live-action/computer animated hybrid film in 2014.

Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog have likely been hearing about the prospect of a live action movie adaptation of the franchise for some time now.

Sony passed the rights to Paramount three years later.

First released in 1991 by SEGA, Sonic the Hedgehog has become a staple in the video gaming world as well as being the mascot for SEGA, rivalling that of Mario and Nintendo. Miller will be busy directing the sixth Terminator film which is due out in 2019.

This will be the first film adaptation for Sonic and it is now a live-action /CGI animation combination that is now scheduled for a 2019 release date. Sonic the Hedgehog's screenwriters are more prolific but their joint credits on titles like Team Hot Wheels: Build the Epic Race don't fill me with optimism.
