Man arrested for assault at Eagles game

Maraghy has been charged with simple assault, according to CMPD.

Police on Friday arrested a Panthers fan accused of punching another fan in the face and bloodying him during the Panthers-Eagles game - an attack fans caught on video.

The video shows Maraghy, wearing a Cam Newton jersey, turn around and address an older man seated behind him, wearing a white T-shirt.

The Panthers fan in the video, since identified as Maraghy, landed numerous punches to the victim's face, leaving him dripping with blood. The victim is a 62-year-old who got into an argument with the 26-year-old because him and the woman standing next to him refused to sit down, and were obstructing his view of the game. He is being transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Warren Carrigan, who shot the video, wrote in the caption that the older man complained to the couple for standing throughout the game - blocking his view.

"Words gradually got more and more escalated. there previously was a single mom and her son between us, they left halfway through the 3rd", according to the Instagram post.

The Panthers have identified the man who threw the punches and are working with local police to bring charges, the team said in a statement. "The behavior exhibited by the perpetrator is unacceptable and will not be condoned at Bank of America Stadium".

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said on a conference call Friday morning that the league was aware of the incident and in contact with Panthers security.

Terry reported Maraghy was charged with assault in 2013 before the allegations were dropped. The assailant was seated in section 541, row 24, seat 10.
