During his second visit of the month, the prime minister also addressed a massive rally organised by the state BJP to celebrate the conclusion of the saffron party's "Gujarat Gaurav Yatra" (march for Gujarat's honour). We came to power in Gujarat and changed the policies to encourage private investments in the ferry services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gujarat for a day-long visit today morning for inaugurating a slew of projects in Bhavnagar and Vadodra, the highlight being a ferry service from Ghogha in Bhavnagar district to Dahej in Bharuch. "It will reduce the fuel consumption to a great extent and will reduce the traffic congestion on the important national highways", he said before embarking on the ferry to take the first ride of the service marking the symbolic launch.
This is the first of its kind project not only in India but also in South-East Asia.
Developed by Gujarat Maritime Board, the ferry service project, will cut down the distance between the two highly-industrialised regions from 360 kilometers through road to merely 31 kilometers via sea route. I am also here with regard to a project in the dairy sector, a sector to which we have given enormous importance over the last two decades.
During the program, PM Modi said that he was very happy to be in Gujarat just after Diwali to convey the New Year greetings. "This ferry service connects Saurashtra and South Gujarat.people from these regions frequently travel to and fro". It is the State's role to provide basic infrastructure for development", Modi said adding, "I have been hearing about this project since my childhood. The foundation stone for the current works was laid by Modi as the chief minister in 2012.
He will also address public meetings in Gogha and Dahej, before leaving for Vadodara, where he is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 1,140 crore.
From Dahej, Modi will travel to Vadodara. We have changed that in the last three years. Vadodara Municipal Commissioner Vinod Rao said Modi will inaugurate a Rs 100 crore city command and control centre in Badamadi Garden and a Rs 125 crore city transport hub and multi-level parking among other projects.
