Remembering Tom Petty in Pittsburgh: 'A tremendous and unique talent'

Legendary rock musician Tom Petty passed away on the evening of October 2 due to cardiac arrest, his manager confirmed. Forgive me if this seems like an impossibly tall order.

Petty and his band started their 40-year career in 1976 when they played for the first time the self-titled record.

A day after music legend Tom Petty's death, fans are still grappling with the news. His songs are in the atmosphere.

The frontman of The Heartbreakers Petty indented up three Grammy wins and 18 nominations and was enlisted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

"Down here on E Street, we're devastated and heartbroken over the death of Tom Petty".

"It's alright if you love me, it's alright if you don't..."

Rocker Cheryl Crow also paid tribute to Petty Monday night at the 2017 espnW Women + Sports Summit in Newport Beach, Calif. "He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I'll never forget him".

"That's my favorite Tom Petty song", he explained. Also the fact that he was backed by the Heartbreakers, he could always deliver his songs with real energy and a more than dynamic reach.

The 66-year-old was found unconscious in his home Monday night and was rushed to UCLA Medical Center. If I had to pick my favourite tracks by him, I'd choose American Girl and I Won't Back Down. Judge recalled. "And he said, 'Yeah, I'll do it.' And he was great, just killed at the table read".

Musicians like Paul McCartney, John Mayer, and Cristina Perri posted messages and love for Tom Petty on their personal Twitter accounts. "I think anybody should be able to pick up an instrument and jump around".

Petty had recently wrapped up a world tour, which included 53 shows in the US, Canada and the UK. Even though I did meet him the one time, I was happy enough to have him sign the guitar. "He died peacefully at 8:40pm PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends".
