So far 20 people rescued alive & 11 dead bodies retrieved.

The passengers were making a trip from Punnami Ghat in Bhavanipuram to Pavitra Sangamam in Ferry village when the vessel capsized, PTI quoted an official as saying. All of them belonged to Ongole Walkers' Club.

According to the AP State Disaster Management Authority, there are two NDRF teams with 30 members each, 45 members of the State Disaster Rescue Force and 12 rescue boats now working on the rescue operation.

Local fishermen at Ferry swung into action immediately and rescued 15 passengers.

This incident comes after 22 people died after a boat capsized on Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat. Efforts were on to find the remaining seven passengers, the police said, adding that none of the passengers was wearing life jacket. They had travelled to Bhavani Island by an AP Tourism Development Corporation boat.

The boat's carrying capacity is 24 people. "As it was nearing the ferry point, it came to a sudden halt as a result of which passengers fell towards one side of the boat and it overturned within seconds", a survivor told the local media persons. They also complained that there were no life jackets on the boat.

Tourism Minister Akhila Priya ordered probe into the incident.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa, leader of opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and others expressed grief over the tragedy.

The incident took place at Ibahimpatnam mandal in Krishna district.
