This year, "The Last Jedi" is expected to propel Disney to the top of the USA box office for a second straight year.

Whether an indication of how they felt about "The Last Jedi" or not, Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed that director Rian Johnson will create another all-new "Star Wars" trilogy.

Details about this upcoming trilogy is unknown.

"We all loved working with Rian on "The Last Jedi, '" Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement".

Johnson, who wrote and directed The Last Jedi has so far become the studio's darling, what with him managing to make the only Star Wars film since The Force Awakens, in which a director was not fired. "Rian will do wonderful things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy".

When Disney announced that it had purchased Lucasfilm and planned a new trilogy of Star Wars films starting with Episode VII, we always knew that this would only be the beginning. And it looks like Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy has been very happy with Johnson's vision of the Star Wars universe that Lucasfilm has chose to put him in charge of a whole new Star Wars trilogy.

"The Last Jedi", which follows on from 2015's hit film "The Force Awakens" and is expected to focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), will be in theaters on December 15.
