"Pakistan is the land of Sikh Gurus and Sikhs love this land". On the pious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Sikhs celebrate this mega day with great enthusiasm, and peace.

Earlier, during the two previous instances the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev and the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in June - the MEA of India did not give its clearance for the visit amid tension on the border.

People from different faiths offered early morning prayers on "Gurpurab" and took part in "Langars" and "Shabad Kirtans".

This year will mark the 548th birthday of Guru Nanak. The morning part also includes singing hymns, a Katha session and ends with a Kirtan. The Governor has prayed for the development of the state beside happiness and prosperity of the people of the state on Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has extended greetings on the occasion of Gurpurab. Baba Guru Nanak Dev, the first guru of Sikhs, holds the highest position among the 10 gurus worshipped by the community.

Guru Nanak voiced three messages for a meaningful, fulfilling life - chant the name of the almighty, work hard and help the needy, the Prime Minister said.
