Encounters ensued between militants and security forces at two places in south Kashmir early Tuesday morning, official sources said.

According to IANS, as soon as the security forces cordoned off Nowbug village in Qazigund area following information about the presence of the militants, they were fired at, triggering the fighting.

As the security forces started the operation, they encountered counter-attack from the militants. The operation has not been called off yet, Pani said.

The security forces had also launched a cordon and search operation in Laam forest area of Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday following reports about presence of militants there.

A senior police official said a militant hideout has been unearthed while the search operations in the area were still in progress.

A police official said that no exchange of fire was their between militants and the government forces.

An LeT militant, identified as Muzamil Manzoor, a resident of Bardoo-Yaripora, Kulgam, was killed. The firing was going on when last reports came in, the spokesman said. "He may have done some diploma course, but not BTech", the DIG said, adding that Mudasir had joined militancy in 2015.

Authorities suspended rail service in North and internet service in twin districts of Kulgam and Anantnag. However, there was no response from militants. The security forces gunned down three terrorists in a fierce retaliation.
