What I will not applaud are the idiots who sully these conversations with idiotic acts, like one of these churchgoing guys in the aforementioned Tennessee church, who ended up busting a cap in himself and his wife while trying to make a point.

"Someone asked if he could see his weapon, he released it by stating that it was not loaded and pulled the trigger".

He removed the gun's magazine, emptied the chamber and started passing it around, according to WATE in Knoxville. "Somebody else walked up and said, 'Can I see it?'".

"During their discussion of this, one of the gentlemen said, "I carry a weapon with me everywhere" and pulled a loaded Ruger.380-caliber pistol from his back pocket, Tellico Plains Police Chief Ross Parks said by telephone. After several people looked at the gun, he reloaded it and put it back in the holster and put it away.

"Evidently he just forgot that he re-chambered the weapon", Tellico Plains Police Chief Russ Parks said, according to the News Sentinel.

The bullet struck the gun owner in his hand, then hit his 80-year-old wife, Parks said. The bullet then ricocheted off the wall and landed under a wheelchair.

Both husband and wife were taken by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. "It was an accidentally discharged handgun", the Tellico Plains Police Department said in a statement on Facebook.

Since the accidental shooting occurred during a weekday afternoon, a nearby school was put on lockdown over fears of an active shooter situation. "Sometimes we don't get enough of that for the general public".
