India's Manushi Chhillar was crowned Miss World as the beauty queen beat out the competition to take first prize at the coveted pageant.

20-year-old Manushi competed against 108 contestants and beat 39 other finalists from various countries at a glittering event held at Sanya City Arena in China.

On that note, actress Priyanka Chopra was the last Indian to win Miss World in 2000.

Chhillar was handed the crown by last year's victor, Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico, at the ceremony in the Chinese coastal city of Sanya on Saturday night.

The first and the second runners-up were Miss England Stephanie Hill and Miss Mexico Andrea Meza.

In the question-and-answer round after she was shortlisted among the top five, Manushi was asked: "Which profession deserves the highest salary and why?"

From being a simple Delhi girl to representing India at Miss World 2017, Manushi's journey has been an inspiring one. Congratulations @ManushiChhillar yipeeeee about time! super proud! Apart from the title, Chillar also won the Beauty with objective award. Her motto in life is "When you cease to dream you cease to live", and she believes her education has given her the confidence to stand on stage and helped enhance her skills.

About 180 women around the world participated to win the Miss World's crown.
