Nigeria held away in final qualifier in Algeria

Having secured a place at the 2018 World Cup with a game to spare, Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has made a decision to give fringe players game time as he looks to fine-tune the team ahead of next year's Mundial in Russian Federation.

John Ogu put Eagles in front with a super finish in the 62nd minute before a controversial penalty converted by Yacine Brahim gave the Fennecs a point in Constantine on Friday.

The home side missed two clear chances in the second half from Islam Slimani and Aissa Mandi right in front of goal, after slips by Nigeria's goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

"Congratulations to Ola Aina who made his first global start for Nigeria Super Eagles in their 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Algeria", Hull wrote on their verified Twitter handle. "But we will always support sports but let's hope that when we do our part the executive arm of the government will also do theirs".

The Super Eagles went into the break with a 0-0 scoreline.

"I have studied the Nigerian team, apart from Iwobi, every other player is mostly a substitute for their team in Europe, but that doesn't mean they will not be at the level to face us", Madjer said.
