Student-athletes at the University of Nevada are graduating at a record-high rate of 81 percent, according to the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate report announced today.
The Division I Board of Directors created the GSR in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students than the federal graduation rate. The GSR subtracts student-athletes who depart for allowable exclusions (e.g. official church mission), as well as those who transfer but would have been academically eligible to compete had they returned to the institution.
Among Utah State's 16 NCAA sponsored sports, three have a 100 percent GSR in golf, soccer and men's tennis, as men's tennis has now achieved that metric for 10 straight years. Student-athletes who graduated in May of 2016 realized a 95 percent career-placement rate.
"The Student-Athlete Success Program staff and our coaches continue to foster a culture of academic success and our student-athletes have embraced this fully while continuing to perform at elite levels in competition", director of athletics David Benedict said. In the fall of 2013, as UConn was on its way to winning its most recent championship, the program's graduation rate hit a low of 8 percent. The WCC average is 90 percent and the NCAA average is 85.
Here are the annual scores for United Kingdom student-athletes breaking or tying the school record each year of the 13-year history of the GSR. "Our goal is to always give our student-athletes the tools to thrive on the playing field as well as the classroom".
Individually, 10 of Georgia Tech's 13 sports* have GSRs higher than the national average for their respective sports.
The NCAA also released federal graduation rates of all students.
The GSR provides a more inclusive calculation of student-athlete academic success. "There are few better moments than when we see our student-athletes earn their degrees".
In addition to the five teams that garnered ideal GSR scores, eight programs posted scores of 90 percent or better including women's cross country and track & field (91 percent), women's ice hockey (93 percent), women's lacrosse (96 percent), women's soccer (92 percent), softball (94 percent), women's swimming (95 percent), baseball (95 percent), and men's ice hockey (90 percent). Incoming transfer students, from junior college or four-year schools, who graduate at United Kingdom are not counted as graduates.
