Antoine Griezmann has found himself at the centre of a racism storm tonight after posting a picture of himself in a controversial fancy dress outfit.
The picture was captioned "80s Party" and showed the French global and Atletico Madrid attacker in a black "Afro" wig and wearing the jersey/shorts combination reminiscent of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team.
The tweet went viral and Griezmann attempted to defend himself.
Griezmann at first reacted to the criticism by tweeting: "Calm down friends, I'm a fan of the Harlem Globetrotters and of this great era".
And a number of GIFs showing embarrassment, awkwardness or urging him to delete the tweet followed.
More than 20 minutes after that post, he added: "I recognise it is clumsy on my part".
The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer and has reportedly been attracting recent interest from Barcelona. "If I offended some people I'm sorry", he wrote.
