Infosys said today that its Board of Directors has appointed Salil S Parekh as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD) of the company effective January 2, 2018.
Parekh has almost three decades of global experience in the IT services industry. The Board believes that he is the right person to lead Infosys at this transformative time in our industry, " Nandan Nilekani, chairman of the Infosys Ltd Board of Directors said on Saturday in an official statement.
"Parekh, 52, joins Infosys from Capgemini where he was a member of the Group Executive Board", said the IT major in a statement here.
Parekh has a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) which he completed in 1986.
"So Infosys appears to have played it safe as the company a bad experience of earlier appointing an American CEO based out of U.S.", said Shriram Subramanian, founder and managing director of proxy firm InGovern Research.
Salil has a great eye for detail, and is a good conversation holder on digital, cloud and the IT modernisation story, said Gogia. Sikka had joined Infosys from German software maker SAP SE in 2014, and was the first outsider to be appointed CEO of the Bengaluru-headquartered company.
Parekh's appointment drew immediate praise from Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, who had a bitter and public fallout with the previous board of Infosys and Sikka during the months preceding his ouster.
His tenure will begins on January 2, 2018.
Interestingly on Saturday, Capgemini put out a separate press release, saying that Parekh "decided to leave the Group in the context of the recent managerial evolutions communicated in October".
Former Infosys Director and Manipal Global Education Chairman T.V Mohandas Pai hoped that Parekh's appointment would work out better, as there was a similar business background in both the companies.
In March 2015 he was named the deputy chief executive officer of Capgemini Group.
Parekh has been appointed for a five-year term effective January 2, according to an Infosys filing to exchanges.
6- He has occupied various leadership positions in Capgemini Group. Like Infosys, Capgemini too is a global consulting, technology and IT outsourcing company with its headquarters in Paris, France.
"As India remains the heart of IT and Business Process Management service delivery, Sen said Parekh's grooming in India would be an advantage to establish the right "face to the Infosys brand" in addition to his experience of working across global cultures".
Nilekani has also since said that he is convinced that Sikka and Seshasayee did no wrong in running Infosys.
