Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been included in 17-man India squad for South Africa Test series.
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has also earned a recall, having last played against England in December past year.
The Indian squad apparently comprises of two spinners Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja while pace department is fully loaded with six pacers including Pandya.
Bumrah has been phenomenal in the limited overs format for India and was supposed to get his maiden call-up for the Sri Lankan Test series, but as luck would have it he will get a chance to wear the national whites on the Protean soil.
Captain Virat Kohli won't play the T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka.
"With regard to Bumrah, if we look at his performance in the last 18 months, he has been sensational". It's a unanimous choice and he definitely adds variety. "The players have selected themselves", said BCCI chairman of selectors MSK Prasad. Prasad said, 17-member Indian squad led by skipper Virat Kohli for the three-match Test series against South Africa will leave on December 27. "Otherwise, he is a top-class bowler", He explained.
Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been left out of the squad and Prasad insisted that the decision had more to do with the conditions expected in South Africa.
In the new look T20 squad, selectors have picked Kerala fast bowler Thampi known for his toe-crushing yorkers while Hooda, originally from Haryana, plays for Baroda at domestic level.
