Jim Harbaugh swipes at Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio on Twitter

Michigan State to play Washington State in Holiday Bowl

Washington State interim AD: Mike Leach 'will be coaching' in Dec. 28 Holiday Bowl

The "off field issues" Harbaugh is referencing the are 13 players who left the team before the start of the 2017 season, including the four players dismissed after being charged for sexual assault.

After Dantonio reacted to MSU's snub of getting relegated to the Holiday Bowl while MI took the Outback Bowl, Harbaugh reacted with a tweet.

In the College Football Playoff rankings released Sunday, the Cougars are No. 18 and Michigan State is No. 16.

Harbaugh, of course, is referring to the 2016 season in which the Spartans finished with a 3-9 record, including a loss to MI, and the numerous off-the-field problems MSU has had over the past year or so, including having multiple players kicked off the team. This year's game between Washington State and Michigan State is scheduled for December 28. "It is a first-class event and the staff treated us exceptionally well last season".

You might be scratching your head, but Harbaugh's comments were apparently a response to Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio. The Cougars put the bowl in the national consciousness two years later when they scored three touchdowns in the final minutes to upset highly regarded Southern Methodist 46-45 - in an era when pinball scores weren't as common as today.

Washington State will be making its second consecutive appearance in the Holiday Bowl and fourth overall. Fans may also call the WSU ticket office at 1-800-GO-COUGS starting at 9 a.m. Monday.

The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl will be televised live nationally by FS1 from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif.
