Penn State returns to Fiesta Bowl to play Washington

Penn State: Seventh appearance in the Fiesta Bowl, 48th bowl appearance in school history.

For the Nittany Lions the game will provide the team with a chance at some redemption after a Rose Bowl loss to USC last season and a bit of unique revenge against a Huskies team that bumped Penn State out of the playoff as the No.4 seed.

Penn State 13, Washington 10. The Huskies finished 11th in the final College Football Playoff poll, which put them in the New Years Six bowl. That game was played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. The Trojans defeated the Cardinal in the Pac-12 championship game Friday night and will play Ohio State in Dallas's Cotton Bowl at 5:30 p.m. December 29.

"Calls are coming in furiously", Fiesta Bowl executive director Mike Nealy said.

Plenty of projections had Penn State facing off against Washington in the postseason.

Washington and Penn State will meet in the postseason for the second time.

Most expected the Lions and Huskies would play in the Cotton Bowl.

Penn State gutted it out down the stretch and fended off an Iowa rally for a 77-73 win at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in its 2017-18 Big Ten season opener. The Lions' last trip to the game came in the 1996 season, a 38-15 win over Texas.
