"Mr Weinstein has nothing but the utmost respect for Peter Jackson".
"My experience, when Miramax controlled the Lord of the Rings (before New Line took over production of the film), was of Weinstein and his brother behaving like second-rate Mafia bullies".
Nearly every story of Harvey Weinstein scandal included a fear of losing opportunities in the race of making a career in Hollywood industry, not only Sorvino and Judd but many women who came forward and accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct can relate this.
Jackson tells Stuff that he was told by Miramax in the late 1990s that they were "a nightmare" to work with and thus didn't consider either for his Lord of the Rings films. "This was probably in 1998", Jackson said.
'I now suspect we were fed false information about both of these talented women - and as a direct result their names were removed from our casting list'.
Jackson was eager for them to be involved in the Miramax production but said that Weinstein put a stop to it. Peter Jackson had just admitted that he didn't hire Sorvino or Ashley Judd for his Lord of The Rings trilogy because of tips from people at Miramax. "They weren't the type of guys I wanted to work with - so I haven't".
"While Bob and Harvey Weinstein were executive producers of the film they had no input into the casting whatsoever", it read. Jackson says it has been 20 years since he has interacted with Harvey Weinstein.
In an emotional tweet Sorvino said "just seeing this after I awoke, I burst out crying".
"I was interested in casting Mira Sorvino in Bad Santa, but every time I mentioned her over the phone to the Weinsteins, I'd hear a CLICK".
'Thank you Peter Jackson for being honest.
Sorvino said Weinstein had confronted her in 1995 in a hotel room and that he "chased" her "around" while trying to get her to have sex with him. Miramax backed the "Lord of the Ring" franchise before New Line took over the series.
Weinstein's representatives also claim that the producer couldn't have slandered the actresses in the way Peter described, as they both continued to star in movies made by Weinstein. After this meeting we were told by Miramax to steer clear of both Ashley and Mira, because they claimed to have had "bad experiences" with these particular actresses in the past.
While Weinstein has denied allegations of non-consensual sex, the scandal has rocked Hollywood and led to accusations against numerous other powerful figures in the media and entertainment industries.
