The College of Education's online graduate program continues to rank among the best in the nation at No. 13. "Our online Educational Leadership program is a prime example of our commitment to offering outstanding academic programs that are responsive to the needs of our students and our other constituents".
Enhancements to the program have been some of the keys to its success in the past few years, said Pamplin Dean Robert Sumichrast. "The student experience is interactive and personal, with direct, individual communication with faculty, small class sizes and collaboration among students". In one year, the college's Master of Teaching and Learning program jumped 10 spots to the top in this ranking.
This course aligns well with the university's strategic goal of making its student body more globally aware, providing experiences in such locations as Costa Rica, China, Italy, Australia, South Korea, Ireland and Taiwan. Its first online program was available in 1997. "Our approach reflects the increased blending of digital textbooks, resources, research tools, classrooms and in-person interactions, which we see throughout higher education".
Indiana University Bloomington ranks the highest among Indiana institutions, tying for second alongside Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. EKU is an accredited, brick-and-mortar institution that has offered online degree programs since 2006.
Virginia Tech has offered online and distance-learning education for two decades.
"With a growing body of evidence to suggest that there is a significant positive relationship between the number baccalaureate-prepared nurses in the workforce and better quality of care and patient outcomes, our program builds upon previous knowledge to enhance quality and safety in today's challenging health care environment", said Grinslade. "We're pleased that our Kelley Direct Program is a model for online graduate business programs worldwide". In the online bachelor's category, more than 250 schools submitted data to be considered in the rankings. Each school was ranked based on criteria, including student engagement, admissions selectivity and peer reputation.
"Our school has been offering fully online programs since 2001", said Christine Kroll, PhD, assistant dean for online education in the Graduate School of Education. "And then, how can we help support all IU students with what we learn?"
