Colorado shooting: 5 deputies shot, 1 fatally, in Douglas County

The slain officer was 29-year-old Zackari Parrish, who had worked for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for about seven months.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office tweeted deputies responded to a domestic disturbance Sunday morning that resulted in shots being fired. The suspect was shot and believed to be dead.

Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said the shooting occurred at a home at the Copper Canyon Apartments, a landscaped complex in Highlands Ranch, 16 miles (28 kilometers) south of Denver.

A source in the sheriff's office told KKTV that the situation is "not looking good for us" as deputies were shot at. "It was nearly immediately after that" that the suspect shot the officers. We love our police and law enforcement - God Bless them all! The hospital said it could not say what their conditions are or if they are law enforcement.

'A Code Red was sent out regarding this incident.

People in the area are being advised to shelter in place and others are being asked to avoid the area. The shooting started at the apartment building, which is located near County Line Road between Colorado Boulevard and University Boulevard.

The Sheriff's office tweeted that "due to the size and scope of this investigation an emergency shelter has been set up" at a nearby recreation center.
