20th Century Fox has recently unveiled a trailer for a movie titled Red Sparrow, based on a book of the same name by Jason Matthews. Earlier this year the studio described the film adding, "Dominika Egorova is many things". However, with this recent trailer focusing on Jennifer Lawrence's character, Dominika Egorova, let's see if this is something we're interested in beyond the obvious similarity to our favorite Marvel spy.
The trailer shows footage of her training with multiple young women as Charlotte Rampling's character asserts, "From this day forward, you will become Sparrows". A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs. Amid such erotically devious behavior (taught to her by Charlotte Rampling and Matthias Schoenaerts), Lawrence falls into an amorous affair with a Central Intelligence Agency agent (Joel Edgerton), who clearly wants her to defect, in large part because he realizes (as Jeremy Irons's bigwig intones) that she has a "soul" that makes her different than the rest of her "sparrow" compatriots. "A master of seductive and manipulative combat".
Red Sparrow arrives in theaters on March 2.
"When we finish with you, the person you were will no longer exist", Dominika is told as she struggles to endure the pain of each specially trained exercise.
Dominika endures a perverse and sadistic training process, and emerges as the most unsafe, seductive and manipulative Sparrow the program has ever produced.
After becoming a sparrow, Dominika is assigned to take down an American CIA agent, dubbed as an government traitor (Joel Edgerton), who soon tries to convince her to make those behind the sparrow service pay. "I'll find a way", she replies coolly. Unfortunately, she does not have the money to pay for the care her mother needs. I just thought, 'I'll never do that again.
