"The Handmaid's Tale" isn't getting any cheerier, at least not based on photos Hulu released on Friday.

"'Gilead is within you' is a favorite saying of [antagonist] Aunt Lydia", according to Hulu.

Season two, which bows April 25, is actually a few shades darker than season one, "if that's possible", Moss said. Consider us loyal soldiers of the Handmaid Army, waiting at the ready to join the May Day rebellion the minute Season 2 hits Hulu on April 26. Good luck sleeping until then.

Back with Moss in the second season are Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle and Amanda Brugel.

And The Handmaids Tale showrunner Bruce Miller has given a first peek into season two.

"Handmaid's" producers and star Elisabeth Moss talked up the big themes of the upcoming season on Sunday morning during Hulu's portion of the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. Yeah, sure, it could be argued that the end of the world already kind of sort of happened when women lost all rights and were sold off and forced to work as sex slaves for men, giving birth to children they weren't allowed to parent under threat of death.

A final picture shows a bloodied Elisabeth Moss.

The concept of women organizing a resistance effort "had a big influence on the first season and will have big influence on second season", Miller said. But at a certain point, you can't spend all your time second-guessing things. You can try, but you won't do it.

But perhaps the most striking image shows what appears to be a Handmaid's funeral (we can guess whose.). 'She's even better in season two, if you can believe it'.

Miller doesn't want to give much more away about the plot, but he promises he's not being cagey; "I just want the viewers to experience it for themselves!" "These scenes that are so lovely, while set in such a awful place, provide the kind of contrast that makes me happy".
