Why Stephen A. Smith Believes Isaiah Thomas Should 'Want' Celtics Tribute

Honestly, the fact that tribute videos have become relevant topics of discussion is a bit ridiculous, as is the fact that players like Thomas apparently want to control when and where they get honored.

It is expected that the franchise will look to honor IT in their next meeting with the Cavaliers on February 11 when he is likely to be in the lineup.

Pierce, now an ESPN analyst, was in attendance for Kobe Bryant's retirement ceremony with the Lakers, and is hoping for the same kind of all-night kind celebration Kobe got, with highlight packages shown on the jumbotron throughout the game.

"I enjoyed watching that throughout the game", Pierce said.

But in an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich (as reported by CBS Boston), Celtics president Danny Ainge assures that the 90-second video tribute for Thomas won't take away from Pierce's big night.

Much has been made of Pierce's unwillingness to share the spotlight with Isaiah Thomas when the Cavaliers guard returns to Boston, as it will be Paul Pierce Night. Pierce responded to the idea of a dual tribute on Thursday's episode of "The Jump" on ESPN, and he didn't seem too happy about it.

"I wanted my family to experience the love and appreciation this city and this organization was going to give me on that night", he said.

"That's Pierce's night, but the video tribute aint the whole night", Thomas said. That's what it came down to. And when my representatives reached out to these guys, [the Celtics] were all for it. "I don't know why people are so mad about it - I'm not taking nothing from Paul Pierce". Judging from Paul Pierce's latest tweet, The Truth may end up setting someone on fire (metaphorically) in fewer than 280 characters. After all the years I put in. "I would be honored". "And Isaiah deserves it, in our minds".
